Technology Innovation of Sixth Sense Device

Introductory

As we know that everybody have five senses. Those are sense of touch, sense of sight, sense of hearing, sense of taste, and sense of smell. All of them help us to feeling, looking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. But, here will be introduced the sixth sense.

Based on our observation, some people have the sixth sense. Although the meaning of sixth sense is haven’t clear, every people have different thinking. Some people said that the sixth sense is something that can help us to examine something. Some of them said that it’s helped by devils. Other people said that sixth sense is feeling that joined the five senses.

As a developing of technology, long time ago some students of MIT who work in TED has done the research and create a device which is called Sixth Sense Technology. They show us that the sixth sense is visible and touchable, Sixth Sense Technology.

The principle of Sixth Sense Technology is the capability of collected data that going to suit to merge with the physical sense in a real physical world. It is developed a wearable from computing system that it turns to any surface of an interactive display screen. The user can summon virtual gadgets and internet data as willing part, then close them like smoke when they’re done.

Beside that, it gives much information that helps us to understand and respond to the world from these senses. But, that’s come from computer and internet that become a set of Sixth Sense Technology.

Limitation Problem

The principal of Sixth Sense Technology is optimality all sense in the human. That’s merging between physical sense with the system of computer and internet. To specification the mastery, we limitation the problem become some mastery, those are:

1. The Sixth Sense Technology;

2. The Devices;

3. Sense of Touch;

4. Sense of Sight;

5. Sense of Hear, Taste, and Smell;

6. The Excellences

The problem will be exposed in every chapter.

The Mean of Sixth Sense Technology

Sixth sense is a tool that connects the physical world with the world data. This tool is made by a group of MIT students who work in the TED Company. Pranav Mistry is a MIT grad student in the back of the Sixth Sense, he and advisers in the MIT Media Lab, Pattie Maes, unveiled at TED2009 Sixth Sense, Sixth Sense and demo premiered yesterday in TED.com - and places in both city people's imaginations are fired.

Students in the MIT Media Lab have developed a computing system that every surface can be changed into an interactive display screen. The user can call the virtual data gadgets and other internet, and then extrude them like smoke when they are finished.

In that uses, you only use the device around his neck on the screen, and colored Magic Marker caps four fingers (red, blue, green and yellow) helps to distinguish the four camera finger and hand gestures to identify Mistry with software that is made. Gestures as simple as using the fingers and thumb to make picture frame that tells the camera to snap photos, which will be saved to the phone.

The Devices

The devices that is used by the Sixth Sense device, there are hardware and software. Parts of hardware are small camera that have function same with the eye. Otherwise, it is the connecting user to digital world information. The second is projector. The function of that tool is to do projection in the one aspect, such as in the wall, body, or the other place.

The sixth sense is completed with a mirror to help projector to project a picture in the wall. The user must use colored caps; those are red, blue, green, and yellow. It helped the camera distinguish the four fingers and recognize his hand gestures with software that created. It needs a phone that collects and transmits the data.

What about software? The software works on the basis of computer vision. The creator had to write a lot of algorithms from scratch here, those are about 50,000 lines of code had they wrote.

The software recognizes 3 kinds of gestures:

1. Multitouch gestures, like the ones you see in Microsoft Surface or the iPhone, where you touch the screen and make the map move by pinching and dragging.

2. Freehand gestures, like when you take a picture.

3. Iconic gestures, drawing an icon in the air. Like, whenever I draw a star, show me the weather. When I draw a magnifying glass, show me the map.

Sense of Touch

In the six senses, the senses of touch are most important. Feeler senses into duty, to control equipment from the six senses itself with the touch. Examples are, if you need to know what time, from as simple as drawing a watch on the arm, while you can use his right finger to draw a circle on the left wrist.

Our finger on the Magic Marker caps there are four fingers (red, blue, green and yellow), which helps the camera to distinguish the four fingers and hand gestures to identify you with software that is made.

Sense of Hear, Taste, and Smell

Senses taste and smell in the six senses is not many have an important role. However, it still has a role in determining a certain object. For example, the software can give information to user that the nutrition of food is good or bad and feel the smell of food.

The Excellences

Many the excellences of Sixth Sense Technology. Which costs less than $ 350, enables users to project information from the phone to any surface - walls, the body of another person or even your hands.

If the user needs to know what time, from as simple as drawing a watch on the arm used his right finger to draw a circle on the left wrist.

When the user expose the idea to access the information from the internet and the projection, so someone wearing a wristband may take a paperback book in the store and immediately call the reviews about books, their projections to the surface in a store or do a search through the keyword books digitized by the pages at Amazon or Google books.

Summary

Sixth Sense Technology a like a magic, as same as we have Doraemon. The system of tool is merging device between phone cell and video as well as physical senses with computer and internet system. But, the device working is almost same with the fifth sense in our body.

Creating of Sixth Sense Technology are the students of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in United State that work in TED Company.

The devices of that are hardware and software. The hardware are camera, projector, mirror, and color caps. And the software is same with computer’s programs that use about 50,000 line of logarithm.

The sense of touch is the most important organ. The user use colored caps or Magic Marker caps to display the data. The sense of sight has function to see the visual data. That is use mirror and projector. Different with sense of touch and sight, sense of hear, taste, and smell is rare to used.

The excellences of sixth sense technology are not too expensive, just about $350. Beside that, it just need an aspect as background, we can watch video when read a newspaper, zoom in or zoom out the photo without touch, and open an internet in your hand.

It can be concluded the progress that. The devices are developing technology that uses even more sophisticated and modern. Indonesia is still behind in this, and we as a generation of students and we should be able to compete with foreign students and technology.
